Coronavirus outbreak: Trudeau says federal government has ‘a role to play’ in keeping workers at meat-packing plants safe

The Cargill meat-packing plant in High River, Alta., has reopened as discussions continue between the company and the union representing its employees. The plant closed temporarily on April 20 due to an outbreak of COVID-19. Speaking to reporters outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa on Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau his government has “a role to play” in what he views as a primarily provincial issue.
