Coronavirus outbreak: Former FDA commissioner cautions off-label use of treatments for COVID-19

Former FDA commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb appeared on television program Face the Nation Sunday to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S. Gottlieb said that in his view, doctors shouldn’t be using protocols that have no evidence in treating COVID-19 because they could not be beneficial and even cause harm. The doctor added that there’s fear people might use household disinfectants to treat COVID-19, after U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned this during a coronavirus task force media briefing earlier in the month.
