Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman announced on Wednesday that 674 city employees were being temporarily laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Bowman said the non-permanent workers temporarily laid off are staff employed at all city recreational facilities, pools, arenas and libraries. The layoff will be effective April 25 and the city will work with them to access assistance.
