Coronavirus outbreak: Tam says recent studies on virus prompted changes to mask guidelines

Canada’s chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam said on Monday the recent change to guidelines around wearing masks and saying people could wear non-medical masks to help protect others was made after the release of new studies surrounding asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission. She said masks can be made using bandanas or other cloth-like material, suggesting someone could even cut up a T-shirt, fold it and then wrap elastic bands around it.
