Coronavirus outbreak: Police screen drivers at checkpoints to restrict movement in Quebec amid COVID-19 spread
Description
April 1, 2020
Police officers in Gatineau, Que. screened drivers at new checkpoints at the various interprovincial bridges between the city and Ottawa, Ont. on Wednesday, directing non-essential motorists back to Ontario as part of a new directive by the government.
The Public Safety Ministry announced on Wednesday that police checkpoints will be installed in various parts of the province to restrict all non-essential travel within Quebec as deaths due to COVID-19 topped 33.
The measure gives police officers more powers, including giving fines to people who are not respecting self-isolating rules when they were ordered to do so.
