Coronavirus outbreak: NY governor says government is working on increasing hospitals’ capacity to deal with COVID-19 cases
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said the government is working on increasing hospitals’ capacity and reducing the number of cases coming to them, to be able to deal with COVID-19 cases.
Cuomo said hospital capacity is currently at 53,000 cases, while the number of cases projected to come in is about 140,000. He said there are only 3,000 ICU beds available, while the need is around 40,000.
Cuomo said social distancing measures, such as closing all non-essential businesses, were introduced to help reduce the number of cases coming into hospitals.
