The licence renewal hearing for BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada got underway in Peterborough on Wednesday.
The company seeks a 10-year renewal but also wants permission to add uranium pelleting production if it deems it necessary. Currently the company only produces pellets at its Toronto facility.
However, many oppose that request.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission’s 3-day hearing will hear from both sides.
