COVID-19: California declares state of emergency following 1st coronavirus death

California Gov. Gavin Newsom confirmed on Wednesday that he had declared a state of emergency following the first confirmed death from COVID-19 in the state. Newsom said the decision was made not just because of the death but because the virus had been discovered on a California-based cruise ship.
