Police use tear gas to lift blockade on Paris waste disposal centre on day 42 of strikes

Protesters were dislodged from blocking a waste incinerating centre near Paris on Wednesday by riot police who made use of tear gas. A few dozen protesters, workers at the incinerator, waste collectors from Paris town council and teachers had been blocking the entrance to the plant, the biggest in the Paris region which deals with incinerating and recycling household waste. Protesters called for the French government to pull plans to overhaul the country’s pension system.
