Mixed reaction among firefighters over compensation for volunteer members

Volunteer firefighters in New South Wales, Australia said Sunday that the recent announcement by Prime Minister Scott Morrison about receiving compensation was “recognition” for the work they do. However, at least one deputy captain said the payment complicates the “whole issue of volunteering.”
