Hong Kong protesters torched a pile of barricade parts on Aug. 31, after police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse thousands of protesters on the streets. The violence came on the fifth anniversary of a decision by China to curtail democratic reforms in the former British colony, which returned to China in 1997.
