Wildfire consumes woodland near Turkey’s third largest city

Two fires had burned more than 1,200 acres of woodland around Izmir, Turkey’s third largest city, by Aug. 19, with residents reportedly pleading for help from authorities as the fires neared the metropolitan area. Turkish reports said four fires broke out in different regions on Aug. 18: two in Izmir province and two in the southwestern Muğla province.
