The Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre on Chemong Road in Peterborough has admitted a record number of injured turtles this year – almost 1,260 so far – and the number likely will continue to rise.

On Friday officials said several turtles are en route to the centre.

Program manager Donnell Gasbarrini.says the number one reason behind turtle injury is getting hit by cars, with some turtles even being hit by boats or swallowing fishhooks.

Even though 2019’s number of injuries is a jump from last year’s 950, the centre suspects it’s not because more turtles are getting injured.
