Vernon city council voted unanimously to support a developer who wants to build a low-rise apartment building next to the protected heron rookery.
Vernon mayor Victor Cumming said the conditions imposed by council and the developers willingness to work with the community to protect the heron will help ensure the bird sanctuary is not harmed.
