Last term Peterborough city council put a tree bylaw into effect requiring residents to get a permit to cut down trees on their property; tax payers were also required to replace felled trees with up to four new ones.
The bylaw quickly became unpopular among some rate payers, with some arguing that it penalized those who were trying to improve their property.
On March 25 council axed the bylaw, putting a temporary one in place which required residents to provide 72-hours notice to the city when a tree was chopped.
Mayor Diane Therrien explains the new rules.
