Senators Wyden, Leahy express concerns over appointment of Matthew Whitaker as acting AG

Senator Ron Wyden said Tuesday that democrats will push for a variety of different approaches to protect Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his investigation after the appointment of Matthew Whitaker as acting Attorney General. He told reporters that attaching legislation for Special Counsel protection to the spending bill is a “strong option.” Senator Patrick Leahy said there was a “great level of concern” that Whitaker could try to “shape” the Mueller investigation among both democrats and republicans. He said that protections for the Special Counsel can be passed in separate legislation from the spending bill and there would be bipartisan support for it.
