Independent journalism and elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have closed two opposition radio stations – the latest in a series of clampdowns on the media as the country prepares for elections in December. At least five journalists have been abducted after publishing articles about alleged misappropriation of rations for police officers. King Solomon – who established a website that’s one of the only independently-run news organizations in the DRC spoke with Global’s Jennifer Palma about the crisis.
