A 16-foot Gitigan Ziibi-style birch bark canoe, handcrafted in Peterborough, is paddled for the first time.

Chuck Commanda is from Kitigan-Zibi, Quebec but has been in Peterborough from late September to early October building a Gitigan Ziibi-style birch bark canoe. The process has been on display at the Canadian Canoe Museum to teach visitors about canoe culture and tradition. The canoe will be on display and used for teaching purposes but not until it is paddled for the first time.
