Actor Kim Coates says the final day of filming for ‘Sons of Anarchy” was grueling. “We literally wrapped Sons of Anarchy’s final, final show, ever, ever this morning at 2 o’clock in the morning,” he told Global News. Coates has become an international star for his role as Tig Trager, a motorcycle club’s sergeant at arms in the television series “Sons of Anarchy.” This year is the show’s last, and Coates says it has shown him the power of television. “I guess I’m a celebrity now,” said Coates, who is originally from Saskatoon. “I can’t go into airports anymore without people running up and wanting a picture.” “I never knew the power of television, when people get to watch you weekly in their own homes, they get attached to Tig Trager, they get attached to “Sons of Anarchy,” said Coates. “I’m very excited to have lasted seven years.” Coates plans to be in Saskatoon on Nov. 8 to host a fundraiser for Creative Kids, which is a non-profit group helping underprivileged children get involved in the arts. It’s one of a number of charities that is important to Coates, and he enjoys using his growing fame to help out. “Creative Kids is a very dear non-profit to me,” said Coates. “It supports children who may not have the wherewithal to take piano lessons, singing lessons, dancing lessons … art, which is so important to anyone who knows me.” <em><strong>Watch below: Kim Coates supports Creative Kids in Saskatoon</strong></em> [tp_video id=1646929] But he says growing up in Saskatchewan, that’s what he was taught. “I love giving back,” said Coates. “That’s who I am, that’s what my mother and father raised me to do, and I think coming from Saskatchewan, we have some of the greatest people in the world, the philanthropy that goes on in that province is unbelievable, and so it’s a no brainer for me.” Coates began his drama career as the University of Saskatchewan, where he took a drama class as an elective. “I just stumbled into drama,” he said. But soon, he was hooked, and wanted to be an actor. He has been in dozens of movies, including Pearl Harbor, and Black Hawk Down, and worked with some of the biggest names in the business. But, he says, he has also worked very hard for many years to get where he is now. “I haven’t stopped ... I love working hard, I’ve taken it seriously … I love teaching kids, and it’s just awesome for me to be able to come home and come back to Saskatoon.” And his career shows no sign of slowing down. “I can’t wait to move on with all my movies, and now a show, for me.”
