Hurricane Gonzalo was expected to hit the UK early on Tuesday, October 21, prompting the Met Office to issue weather warnings for much of the country. Heathrow Airport cancelled flights while emergency speed restrictions were put in place on the West Coast Mainline with heavy rain and high winds expected to cause further delays.
