VANCOUVER - A three-car crash closed the Lions Gate Bridge for about 30 minutes on Thursday morning. The three cars collided head-on near the north end of the bridge deck. Alternating traffic on the bridge at the time had one lane northbound and two lanes travelling southbound. Witnesses say traffic volume resulted in northbound traffic coming to an abrupt stop in front of a northbound sedan. Investigators have determined the northbound driver swerved into the centre lane to avoid hitting a vehicle immediately ahead and collided head-on with a southbound vehicle in the centre lane.  Both vehicles then spun striking another southbound sedan before all three vehicles were struck by a southbound pick-up truck. A 24-year-old West Vancouver woman driving the first southbound vehicle struck was taken to hospital for evaluation of apparently minor bruising and abrasion injuries. Traffic was heavily backed up in the area as the result. The investigation is ongoing. Investigators are considering a number of charges against the northbound driver, including Disobey Traffic Control, Speed Relative To Conditions, and Unsafe Lane Change.
