CALGARY- Homeowners in Didsbury spent their Monday cleaning up, after their community was hit hard by a sudden storm. Intense hail battered backyards, obliterating the siding of practically every home along one block in the central Alberta town. “I was putting my daughter to bed and we heard it,” remembers Loretta Reikie. “It was so loud we thought it was going to come through the front window. “It got the full front of the house, punctured the kids’ toys. We had a gazebo out, and the weight of the hail took it right down.” Ken Salmond’s house was nearly hit by a falling tree. “When that [tree] split in half, it's like, wow. It's scary when it happens, the power goes out, all you hear is the loud noise.” Town officials said their crews were busy throughout the day, fielding calls and responding to cleanups. While the power was knocked out to some parts of the town on Sunday night, power was restored within a few hours.
