Hurricane Simon, the tropical storm warned of by Mexican authorities over the weekend, is closing in on the country’s western coasts, bringing devastating effects to the state of Colima. Footage captured intense wind speeds of more than 240 kilometres per hour, heavy rainfall – with a projected 30 inches to come – and the flooding of residencies and streets in the Pacific Ocean port city of Manzanillo. One resident said the storm started to take it’s toll “at dawn, around 3 a.m.,” noting the water had never risen to such a high level in Manzanillo.
