At 17, Cape Breton volleyball player Leah Burns took a dive during a game that she thought had resulted in a sports injury. Instead, the incident led doctors to discover a rare pancreatic cancer. Eight years later, Leah is sharing her story ahead of Halifax's Kicking PancreAS™ 5K on September 26, participating in the event for the first time to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and support others and families affected by the disease. Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths in Canada, and is expected to become the second by 2030. Drugs like daraxonrasib that can extend the lives of pancreatic cancer patients but are still not accessible in Canada.
