Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre rose in the House of Commons during question period on Tuesday, alleging Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government was working against B.C. property owners. “The prime minister likes to spread the illusion that he’s protecting property rights, but the reality is quite the contrary. This Liberal government instructed its lawyers not to defend property rights in the Cowichan case with litigation directive No. 14, that said those titles don’t take priority,” Poilievre said. Carney struck down the assertion saying “private property rights are fundamental in this country, this government will always defend them. That is why we immediately appealed the Cowichan decision.”
