January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and it is now easier for women to be tested for the human papillomavirus, or HPV. A new screening method that can detect problems earlier and more accurately than the traditional test is now available in many clinics across Montreal. But as Phil Carpenter reports, significant gaps remain in the focus on women’s health, leaving access to even this new testing method a challenge, particularly within Indigenous communities.
