On Indonesia’s western island of Sumatra, almost 450 people have been killed and dozens are missing after three provinces were devastated by landslides and floods following Cyclone Senyar’s rains. Evacuation efforts are underway, but emergency services have been hampered by major roads being cut off and blackouts of telecommunications and electricity. Relief and rescue teams have had to use helicopters to deliver aid to the nearly 1.1 million people affected. Global’s Vincent McAviney reports.
