At a press conference in Ottawa on Wednesday, Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said the federal budget focuses on housing, infrastructure and innovation, while identifying $60 billion in savings. He said Canada and Germany are among the only countries with the fiscal capacity to make “generational investments” in defense, productivity and green technology. Champagne also said plans to lower temporary immigration levels are aimed at returning to “more sustainable” numbers so newcomers can find homes, schools and services.
