Just three days into her new post as Japanese prime minister, Sanae Takaichi has pledged to accelerate the nation’s defence spending goal of 2 per cent GDP. Initially targeted for the 2027 fiscal year, Takaichi told fellow Parliamentarians in Tokyo on Friday that the government would aim to achieve this by current fiscal year through March.
