Members of Madagascar's national assembly on Tuesday voted to impeach President Andry Rajoelina, who fled the country earlier in the week amid nationwide protests calling for him to step down. Colonel Michael Randrianirina said that the military has taken charge of the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar and "there is no president, no president of the Senate, no government—nothing is working. So we have to take responsibility."
