At a press conference on Thursday, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly said the government’s top priority is protecting and creating jobs, starting with new investments in defence. She announced work on a national defence industry strategy that will use procurement to generate employment while strengthening Canada’s Armed Forces. Joly added the government is pushing major national projects and seeking closer ties with Europe and Asia to reduce reliance on the U.S. for trade.
