Speaking Thursday, senior executives representing Air Canada said nearly all flights, barring Air Canada Express – which is operated by third parties – “will be paused” after the union representing the airline’s flight attendants (CUPE) officially handed in a 72-hour strike notice Wednesday. Despite being “disappointed” by the decision, Air Canada Executive Vice President Arielle Meloul-Wechsler says the “situation was and still is avoidable,” noting they are still open for negotiations.
