Firefighters were recorded attempting to extinguish a “fire tornado” in Turkey’s northwestern Anatolia peninsula Monday. The Bilecik region was one of hundreds devastated by wildfires in the last week. While tens of thousands have been temporarily evacuated from their homes, other Mediterranean countries are part of this “wildfire hotspot” too, researchers say.
