A Russian-American dual national has been freed from a Russian jail in a prisoner exchange with the U.S. Ksenia Karelina was arrested in Russia in February 2024 when she returned to visit family. The ballet dancer was convicted of treason stemming from a donation to a charity aiding Ukraine. A Russian-German man jailed on smuggling charges in the U.S. was released as part of the swap.
