Canadians may notice some extra charges on the items they bring back from the United States as Canada imposes 25 per cent counter-tariffs on certain U.S. goods, in addition to regular duties and taxes, when being brought into Canada. The surtax will apply to goods that originate in the U.S., commercial imports and to individual travellers above their personal exemptions, the CBSA explained.
