Myanmar frees 6,000 prisoners as nation marks Independence Day

Myanmar released more than 6,000 prisoners Saturday as part of a mass amnesty marking the nation’s Independence Day. The release represents just a small proportion of political detainees locked up for opposing army rule since the military seized power in 2021.
