Peru has declared an environmental emergency in Piura, after state oil giant Petroperu spilled a crude oil shipment into surrounding waters of the northern region. The devastating spill occurred on Saturday at the terminal of a Talara refinery as a vessel unsuccessfully attempted pre-shipment manoeuvres. Leaking oil quickly painting several local beaches in not just Talara, but Lobitos, too.
