Murder suspect Karen Read compared demonstrations by her supporters in Dedham, Massachusetts, on Monday, September 2, to protests against the Vietnam War. “You’re brave. You would’ve protested the Vietnam War and ended it,” Read can be heard saying in the footage. “This is the modern equivalent to that.” Read is facing murder charges for allegedly hitting her then-boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, with an SUV in January 2022. Read’s two-month trial ended in July, when jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision and a judge declared a mistrial.
