While Canada’s official poverty rate is roughly seven per cent, there are many more Canadians who cannot afford their basic needs than previously thought, according to a new report from Food Banks Canada. Heidi Petracek explains how the new numbers were tabulated, some of the simple things more people cannot afford, and what it means as Canada works to address its growing cost of living crisis.
