From the archive: 1979 collision of freighter into Second Narrows Rail Bridge

In 1979, a Japanese freighter collided with the Second Narrows Rail Bridge, sending a section of the key commodity corridor crashing into Burrard Inlet. Repairs took six months and the incident created problems for industries reliant on rail service.
