Several vehicles fell into the chilly waters, and rescuers were initially searching for at least seven people. According to Baltimore Fire Chief James Wallace, two individuals were rescued from the waters beneath the Francis Scott Key Bridge, with one of them in a serious condition. The fire chief stated that authorities may be searching for up to seven people, but noted that this figure is subject to change.
