Toronto police chief acknowledges backlash over controversial home invasion advice

On Monday, Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw addressed the criticism received by the police department following an officer’s recommendation to leave car keys by the front door to avoid home invasions. “We’re certainly aware of the backlash. That’s something that happened the in the context of a community meeting many weeks ago now,” he said, adding people should take preventive measures like “Use your own thinking around your own environment, cutting Hedges back, making sure the lighting is good, parking your car in your garage, etc.”
