Ramadan in Gaza: Displaced Palestinians continue calls for ceasefire

On Monday, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for a truce in the Israel-Hamas in the Gaza Strip and the conflict in Sudan, as the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan begins. Meanwhile, displaced Palestinian families in Rafah have decorated their tents for the holy month of Ramadan. The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has forced them to live in overcrowded camps with limited access to basic necessities such as food, gas and medications. “If the first day of Ramadan is tough on us, how will the second and third days be?” Fedaa Hamed, a displaced Palestinian, said and added, “We are calling for a ceasefire, not a (temporary) humanitarian truce. We want to go back to our homes, we want to live the spirit of Ramadan like every year, we want to decorate and feel the joy of Ramadan.”
