‘Too much, too soon’: Alberta EV owners suggest more equitable tax models

Some electric vehicle owners say they’re being unfairly penalized after Alberta’s 2024 budget introduced a new tax on EVs. The province says the battery-charged vehicles create more wear and tear on our roads due to weight — maintenance other drivers pay for with a fuel tax. But as Sarah Offin reports, it’s not the tax itself, but the method of collecting it that’s leaving some EV owners feeling targeted.
