An Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson said Friday residents of Gaza City should seek imminent safety as attacks from Israel will persist. Meanwhile, the UN is calling upon Israel and Hamas militants to put an immediate end to ongoing attacks against one another to allow aid transports to drop off rations for citizens of Gaza. Over in Canada, Tamer Jarada and his wife were both warned by their parents — still living in Gaza — that they may not live through the airstrikes. Never did he believe he would lose both parents or 15 other members of his family. Heather Yourex-West reports on this tragedy.
Near the Canada-U.S. border, authorities are sweeping from location to location as tips continue to come in on a potential location of the missing suspect in the killing of 18 in a mass shooting in Maine on Wednesday. Also, celebrated as an Indigenous hero for decades, Buffy Sainte-Marie is now defending herself after a report questioning her Indigenous roots.
And, despite implementing a carbon tax to incentivize “people and businesses to pollute less,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Thursday that his government would pause applying carbon pricing to home heating oil deliveries for three years in Atlantic Canada. Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre suggests the decision was made as Trudeau sits in “panic mode” as a federal election looms.
