In October 2018, Canadian rail exports hit a record high at 327,229 barrels per day — that's a 138.5 per cent volume increase in one year.

The charges stem from a joint investigation by Transport Canada and the RCMP that was prompted by the deadly train derailment in Lac Mégantic in July 2013.
