There are worries if Alberta's coronavirus testing system is strained right now, it may not be able to handle demand in the fall — which will see not only COVID-19 but an expected increase in respiratory illnesses.

Numbers obtained by Global News from AHS show that more than 2,000 tests were booked almost every day for the last week in the Edmonton zone.

The number of appointments booked in the Edmonton zone has grown from around 600 a day at the end of May to more than 1,000 a day in early to mid-June.
