Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould will introduce legislation making gender identity a prohibited ground for discrimination in Canada's Human Rights Act and make it an identifiable group protected from hate crimes.

A bill to add gender identity to Canada's Criminal Code and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was killed in the Senate last year. The new Justice Minister has been tasked with reviving it.
