Newly unionized pilots with Porter Airlines have served the company a formal notice that it intends to begin collective bargaining on a contract for the first time.

Pilot unions say France-based plane producer Airbus is leading the drive toward "reduced-crew operations," while North American airlines are more reluctant to jump on board.
