A rare saurornitholestes raptor fossil found in Alberta's Dinosaur Provincial Park is being called a "scientific goldmine" by researchers.

It had feathers and looked as if it were part penguin, part duck and part swan. It was between the size of a chicken and a turkey and ate the same sorts of things in the same sorts of places as a heron. 

The animal is described as meat-eating, was approximately 6.5 metres long while alive, had a proportionally long and low skull, small teeth, highly pneumatised bones and “can-opener” claw hands.
